The Purpose of this Blog
My father moved to the Quincy Valley and began farming in the 1950's. After 40 years of managing his own farm, he decided to sell. He kept the 2 houses on the property and about 8 acres of land that surrounded them. All the other land was sold. One section became a golf course, another an orchard and the rest continues to be farmed. Initially, my father sold some of his farm equipment. Actually, he didn't have to try very hard. Farmers came to him and offered to buy it. However, the offers soon tapered off and he was left with a lot of equipment - tractors, trucks, plows, etc. Over the years, he has managed to sell a piece here and there, but he still has quite a few items. So what to do with these items? He has no use for them. Some of the equipment can still be used. Some can be used for parts. Other items can be restored and showcased as antiques. Whatever the case, this equipment can be used in some fashion (use your imagination). Actually, last year a woman stopped in and wanted to buy a grain auger for an art project! So with that in mind, from time to time I am going to post pictures and a description of various pieces of farm machinery in hopes of finding them a new home. I have no ideas how this is going to turn out or if it will be successful. But I'm willing to find out. If you have any interest in any of the posted items, let me know!
